DRAKE AND Kanye West are arguably the two biggest names in music today.
But despite their global success, the pair wouldn’t be getting played anywhere in the urban world if it weren’t for their label bosses.Embed from Getty Images
That’s according to Fat Joe, who claims that he or nobody he knows would’ve been listening to either of them without Hov, Wayne and Baby’s approval.
The Roc Nation head huncho made Kanye hot and the Cash/Young Money CEO’s done the same with Drizzy, Joe feels.
This is because neither the Yeezy owner or Champagne Papi had that street stamp of approval that was desperately needed for a rapper to succeed in that period.
But that all changed when the ‘backpack rappers’ as Joe labeled them were publicly embraced by the certified guys that had signed them.
In an interview on the ALL THE SMOKE podcast, Joe explained why he viewed Kanye and Drake’s careers in that way.
He said: “Jay brought Yeezy in the game, Yeezy was a backpack rapper let’s say the truth.
“And thugs don’t listen to back rapper’s like that.
“But when he got co-signed (by Jay) and got that Roc chain we was like we fuck with him! He opened the doors.
And Drizzy had the same luck as Ye because once Birdman rubbed his hands together, it was a wrap.Embed from Getty Images
Joe added: “Same thing with Drake, he was that smart guy rapper, similar.
“But once my man with all the tattoos in his face Lil Wayne said ‘oh no’.
“And Birdman was like (rubs hands together) we was like we fxck with him!
“We fxck with these guys.”
It’s funny how things turn out because now Kanye’s Fat Joe’s favorite rapper.
And has been for over a decade now.
Joe admitted: “Yeezy my favorite rapper, for the last 10, 12 years now.”
But Joe shouldn’t have to wait too long to hear his favorite rapper who’s scheduled to drop his heavily anticipated album Donda any minute now.
Mr. West has been teasing his latest music release since last month.
He even had a whole album roll out and listening party the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta.
But that was just a ploy from the world’s greatest showman to build up mass hysteria around his project as he still hasn’t dropped it yet.
Drake’s also taken a leaf out of his one-time enemy’s book by pushing back the release date of his Certified Lover Boy album which he claims will be released soon.
